She led a full life and was still one of the top bridge players in the area at age 90 She loved to win, but was gracious if she lost. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Commission Meets The Beautification and Appearance Commission will meet at 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, in the conference room of the Agriculture Extension Building College Closed Isothermal Community College, Spindale and Polk Campus will be closed April 13 thru Monday 16 for Easter holiday. The college reopens at 8 am. Tuesday. April 17. Library Closed The Polk County Public Library will be closed for Good Friday. April 13 The Library will resume regular hours Saturday. April 14 Rear Admiral John M Poindexter, charged with deceiving and lying to Congress as part of an effort to conceal the Reagan Administration's action in the Iran-Contra affair. Saturday was convicted of all criminal charges against him Missing Gilliss Carl Mills. Jr. of Landrum Road, Columbus has been reported missing Mr. Mills who is known as Junior or J R was last seen in Tryon six weeks ago. He is 28, 5’7” and weighs about 170 lbs. He has black hair, dark eyes and usually has a mustache. Sierra Outing At Pearson’s Falls The newly formed Pisgah Sierra Group which includes members in Polk, Henderson and Transylvania counties is holding its first Polk County function as an outing to Pearson’s Falls on Wednesday. April 18, starting at 3 p.m. Participants will join one of Professor Ivan Kuster’s classes which will be studying the wildflowers of the area. John Freeman, Chairman of the Pisgah Group, says he is especially anxious that Sierrans in Polk County attend so they can know’ each other and that he can start becoming acquainted with members living in this area While the group holds its monthly meetings in Brevard, it wants to build into its program an outreach to members throughout the Group’s territory. In addition, this outing gives participanLs an opportunity to observe the very interesting wildflowers in the area and blooming at this season. Members and guests are invited to assemble at the entrance to the Falls area at 3 o’clock. Freeman will wear a green ribbon on his cap for identification. Bill Thomas. President of Sierra Club's N.C State Chapter will hopefully join the group after he speaks to a Tryon garden club group that same afternoon. — Reporter Jim Valvano’s 10 year reign as N.C. State's basketball coach ended Saturday when he agreed to take a $212,000 buyout to terminate his contract.
